At creation high, we don’t just teach knitting, we teach students how to transform their lives through knitting!
Our founder, Karen Zila Hayes, is the creator of the world’s first safe knitting program. Too many knitters develop chronic pain issues from because most teachers focus on what the yarn is doing, not what the body is doing. Our safe knitting protocols ensure that all students comes away with a technique that will never harm them.
For over a decade-and-a-half, our knitting club programs have been earning rave revues and record enrolment in some of the top private schools in Toronto!
CREATIVE KNITTING
THE WONDERS OF KNITTING is CREATION HIGH’s flagship program. Our knitting clubs have been running in some of Toronto’s top private and independent schools for 16 years with many students participating from SK through to graduation. Did you know knitting has amazing physical, emotional, and cognintive effects? It calms the disposition, nurtures creativity, enhances apha brainwave production, regulates mood, and improves symptoms of ADD/ADHD. And that’s not all!
Schools across the world are beginning to discover the academic benefits of knitting. This wonder craft reinforces basic concepts of mathematics, improves hand/eye coordination and small motor skills, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Knitting also stimulates both sides of the brain simultaneously and, as a result, enables students to achieve a greater level of concentration when learning. Programs have been implemented in the U.S. and Denmark in which students are encouraged to knit during class to improve their ability to learn. And, of course, it’s super-fun, too!
Who knew that, as children experience the joy of creating their very first knitted piece, they are also improving their health and wellbeing? With all that going for it, how can we not knit?

Students will explore their own creativity, learning multiple techniques and proper knitting posture, and discover the fun of this timeless activity, all the while experiencing its many wonderful benefits.

About the teacher: Teacher Karen Zila hayes is not only an expert in sensory wellness and restorative knitting, she ia an adaptive learing specialist, who teaches each student based on his/her individual needs, age and skill level. This is what makes our multi-age class format so successful. Karen not only loves teaching, she loves guiding others to be great teachers. As a result her returning knitting club students absolutely love helping new members learn. And this process, in tuen, helps the older students master their skills because a skill can only be taught once it has been mastered.
