The act of colouring has been engaging kids for generations, even before its amazing health benefits were widely known. Doctors and psychologists have known about the benefits of colouring for close to two hundred years and colour therapy has been used for thousands of years, in various cultures, to improve health and general well-being.
Our CREATIVE COLOURING class takes this craft to the next level by using colour therapy tools and techniques to help students maximize the benefits of colouring, a practice we call Conscious Colouring.
Designed by Karen Zila Hayes, colour therapist and author of The Shaded Tree colouring book, the class teaches the foundations of ‘colour harmonics’. This technique allows students to build balanced combinations akin to musical chords in which the colour groupings create powerful visual ‘harmonies’. These groupings can be designed to produce an array of emotional states based on what each student requires in the moment.
In addition to igniting creativity, this class helps kids develop fine motor skills, train their brains to focus, calm themselves, centre their minds, reduce anxiety and hyperactivity, regulate moods and promote relaxation at any time throughout their day.
Coloured pencils, colouring templates and/or books are provided. Kids will also learn fun and easy methods of creating their own colouring templates. CLICK HERE to inquire about bringing our CREATIVE COLOURING programs to your school, summer school or camp.
Creative Song is a singing session for all who love to have fun with their voice and for those that want to explore a great new form of self-expression. The sessions are built around three types of formats:
~) Fun and easy call-response songs, composed by the CREATION HIGH team and performed in a live-interactive setting
~) Musical activities such as spontaneous songwriting games, harmony building skills and name that tune
~) Singing along to pre-corded songs from our extensive catalogue of music from Jazz of the 1920’s & 30’s and popular hits from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s
Creative Song sessions draw upon the amazing power of music to engage, inspire and uplift. Our aim is to connect people with the joy of singing. There is no music to read or memorize and no previous singing or music theory experience is necessary.
Our MOMMY & ME Knitting classes provide a creative and fun environment for children and parents to knit alongside each other. The act of knitting produces an array of amazing physical, cognitive and emotional health benefits and we think it’s a perfect pastime for families to share.
The techniques featured in this class include finger knitting, arm knitting, spool knitting and needle knitting. Possible projects include scarves, headbands, hats and mini purses.
At CREATION HIGH, we not only teach parents and children how to knit, we give parents the proper tools to effectively and safely guide their children along their knitting journey. And we often find that children end up teaching their parents a thing or two as well.
This class is suitable for children ages four and up.
MOMMY & ME GROUP SINGING LESSIONS
Unlike Singing lessons, where the focus is on technique, ‘Mommy & Me’ Singing sessions are about parents and children experiencing the simple pleasure of singing together.
Many adults, even those who don’t feel comfortable singing in public, will sing to their babies, but they don’t often continue the practice beyond infancy. In our classes adults can learn from the freedom and non-judgmental attitudes of children who find it completely natural to use their voices for self expression.
Our classes feature Interactive songs and musical games that are fun and easy to learn. No singing or musical experience necessary.
In our ‘Mommy & Me’ C.A.N. (Colour~Art~Nature) classes, parents and children can come together to relax and enjoy Colour Therapy VIdeo~Art projections of flowers, trees and water.
After the video portion, participants are guided through an interactive session that allows parents and children to share how the colours featured make them feel. Parents gain insight into their children’s reactions to colour, providing a new communication gateway, and everyone leaves feeling relaxed and refreshed. Verbal participation is not mandatory and pre-verbal children are welcome to attend.
If you have a group of moms in the GTA who are interested in this class, Creation High will come to you. Click here to contact us for more info.
With the growing popularity of digital entertainment, our computers, mobile devices and cell phone screens have begun to pull focus from our outdoor recreational time. As a result, N.D.D. (Nature Deficit Disorder) is becoming more widespread.
C.A.N. (Colour And Nature) Sessions create a bridge between the digital and natural worlds, bringing the power of nature directly onto your screens. Our ‘Colours of Nature’ Video-Art Series provides a fun, stimulating way to educate students about the important functions of trees, flowers and water. and their benefits to ourselves and our planet.
